Clogged Sewers

The Camden Maintenance Department's most frequent call-outs lately have been related to toilet & sewer stop-ups. When this type of call-in appears, frequently the calls are generated from specific areas within our housing authority.

An example of this lately is in our Ivory Heights area. In the lower section of Ivory, several calls have been made to report stop-ups. In this particular case most likely there is but one culprit; One tenant carelessly discarding objects into the toilets that are not and have never been meant to be flushed. We have found upon clearing this particular line over and over again cloth cleansing towels, Handi-wipes, cloth washcloths, along with a share of ladies' sanitary napkins.

Our Maintenance department has, in the period from July 1, 2013 to 1 October 1, 2013, responded to 47 Commode Stop-ups along with 53 sewer stop-ups, many of which were called in from Ivory Heights tenants. In closing, the numbers above represent hundreds of wasted work hours correcting sewer & toilet stop-ups that could have been avoided had our tenants flushed only toilet paper down the toilets.
